Cade recently made an appearance in this blog post about senior boys (and why I think getting quality portraits made of them is such a must-do for mommas), but I decided that he needed an entire blog post all to himself—and that’s not JUST because he’s family. 😉

Man, is he handsome! And so kind and thoughtful, too. Conversations with Cade are my absolute favorite. We connect in so many ways and his thoughtfulness reminds me of myself at 19. He’s also super inquisitive, which is a rare quality in a young man. The only thing I loved more than photographing him and his willingness to take risks during his session (see the hand-in-the-hair skyline photo that became an instant all-time favorite) was the post-session conversation we had over street tacos in Downtown Dallas. I loved hearing about his hopes and dreams for the future, and could sense a restlessness to explore his innate independence.

I’ve heard people say, “We’re made up of the same stuff,” and that is how I feel about Cade. He and I are made up of the same stuff. He’s always felt more like a nephew than a cousin to me, but now I consider him a friend. I enjoy his company more than he knows and I miss seeing him now that he’s living it up at Texas State.

Be brave, Caddos, and walk through every open door before you…even if you have to fake confidence for a bit. I can’t wait to see how your life unfolds. xoxo
