Congratulations are in order for Madi, who graduated in 2019 and was recently accepted to TCU! She wanted some updated portraits in anticipation of sorority recruitment this fall. I think this is a great idea as so much can change in a year, by way of appearance and personality. Madison has a sunny personality and is tall enough to be a model—reminding me that I seriously need to bring a step stool to my shoots. My short self is getting too old to be climbing on things!

I love the outfits that Madison and her mom were able to put together for this shoot. I especially love the contrast of the pink blouse she wore against the high-gloss white wall. The beautiful weather and Madison’s laid-back energy allowed me to highlight her personality and made for some great, authentic expressions.

At her ordering appointment, Madison’s mom was so kind and eager to give praise. In moments like this, it’s often hard for me to accept compliments. Portrait photography is such a natural extension of myself and my genuine interest in others’ lives. I really thrive when I’m able to form connections with people and help put them at ease. It’s always my hope that families feel that they can “pass the baton” to me—even if it’s only for a few hours—so that they can just be. I got the sense that even Madison’s dad was hoping to be truly present and “in the moment” at her session. I love that I can give that gift to parents; that by trusting these moments to me, they’ll be able to cherish them for a lifetime. I can’t put my finger on exactly why Madison’s shoot reminded me of all this, but I can sense that these portraits truly meant something to this family. I’m so glad to have met them, and I can’t wait for my next portrait session so I can lean into this calling more and more with every photograph.

I can’t wait to see where life takes this sweet girl, and I wish her the best of luck on her recruitment journey!
