Marshall knew exactly what he wanted during his session…which was the complete opposite of what his momma wanted to capture. Ha! Fortunately for both of them, I love a challenge. While Marshall’s mom, Kathy, may prefer hair down, a big smile, and a handsome button-down to an edgy graffiti wall and bandana, we were able to capture both looks and styles in the same session. It’s easy to compromise when you have clothing and location changes that reflect multiple sides of your personality!

Having worked with Kathy before, I knew she valued good portraits, and it was truly an honor to be hired to capture her boys. I photographed her older son, Mason, in 2014. In addition to Marshall and Kathy having opposite tastes, Marshall and Mason are also vastly different from each other. But those differences are part of what make my job so much fun! Not every girl wants to be photographed in a flowery field wearing tons of makeup, and not every guy wants to have his picture taken in a sports jersey. The beauty and the challenge of portrait photography lies in capturing what makes each individual unique, and I always aim to create works that are both timeless and cohesive—especially if I’ve photographed a sibling previously.

Thank you for choosing me, Gonzales family!
