How in the world did I get lucky enough to cross paths with the Buskins? This family is just so wonderful! You might remember the gorgeous Hannah and her horses from last year—she’s Hannah’s sister. I was so surprised and excited when the family reached out about Toni’s photos this year. We ditched the barn setting for a bright, fun and quirky urban background. Toni’s energy was so much fun. She described herself as awkward, but I was right at home with her parkour-esque way of being—Toni has a natural kinetic energy that I love! In between each setting, she would move or dance and then all of a sudden stand in a way that was totally unique. (She reminded me of my Ellie, who never walks in a straight line—always cartwheeling and jumping on everything in sight!) It was so natural and made my job easy and fun.

Toni’s mom, Marla, is such a kind soul and even volunteered to carry my heavy camera bag around! A younger me would have insisted on getting even more out of breath than I already was, but a wiser and older me gratefully accepted her generosity.

I’m also so thankful we chose to shoot at Deep Ellum. The place has such a great energy that was so reflective of Toni’s personality. We found the best artwork there, and I LOVE that Toni and her mom took my suggestion for the final look to be in sweats and a t-shirt! Thank you Marla for the honor of photographing your girls. 🙂
